I am an integrative health counselor and a homotoxicologist. I received my training in health counseling from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and the Teachers College of Columbia University. I am certified by Columbia University and an accredited member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, an organization that certifies health professionals who do not work with pharmaceuticals.

I have been trained in over 40 dietary theories from Eastern and Western medicine.
I was taught by an amazing assortment of the world’s foremost authorities on wellness, nutrition and counseling — Neal Barnard, Deepak Chopra, Annemarie Colbin, Barry Sears, Andrew Weil, Walter Willett, Andrea Beaman, John Douillard, Sally Fallon, Mark Hyman, David Katz, Paul Pitchford, Bernie Siegel, David Wolfe, and Mehmet Oz. As a homotoxicologist, I have studied under some of the most prominent professionals in the field, including respected lecturer and autism recovery expert Mary Coyle, and Dr. Gregory Ellis, an author and a leading authority on natural detox and sports nutrition.

I am a mom of two boys, ages seven and five, and the wife of a reluctant health nut (shhh! don't tell him). We are slow foodies, seasonal eaters and locavores. Living in New York City, we are privileged to have the opportunity to eat mostly locally and sustainably-grown food — nutrient-dense, vibrant, delicious food that the "experts" say no longer exists. I am an ardent cook, drawing inspiration from my family and friends. I've become an avid blogger due to my love of writing about my passions. I demystify New York City Greenmarkets, whole, seasonal foods and evolutionary nutrition on my blog—SandraDubrov.blogspot.com. I am a triathlete and have fallen in love with the intense, exciting world of mulitsport; you can follow my triathlon adventures in my blog, Unfit Chick. I am the health and diet coach at Sports Center at Chelsea Piers. I am also health coaching New York athletes enrolled in running and triathlon training programs at JackRabbit Sports.

I am also a speaker — I enjoy leading groups, workshops, teleclasses and webinars. If you have never taken a teleclass, you are missing out! It's like having a private lesson in your living room. You can see a complete list of upcoming events in the Classes section of the website.

As with many in my field, a personal crisis brought me to this path. My older son, Adam, was diagnosed (by his pediatrician, three psychologists, a developmental pediatrician and a pediatric neurologist) with autism at the age of two. It was a long road that brought him to being the fully-recovered, neurotypical seven-year-old he is today. A diet of healing foods and homotoxicology were vital to his recovery. We all grew with him during this process, becoming the wacky, happy, healthy family we are now. Read Adam's story here.

My mission as a health practitioner is to help my clients become passionate about healthy eating, fearless living and reaching their ideal, balanced, vibrant life. It's not easy to fall in love with your life and live free from guilt and denial. The concept of bio-individuality is that each person has his own nutritional needs. So, when the experts say, “dairy is good for you” or “fat is unhealthy,” it’s too much of a generalization. One person’s food is another person’s poison, and that’s why fad diets don’t work in the long run. And what about your relationships, your career, your fitness routine, your spirituality, your self-care, your fun? These things impact your health as much as the food you eat.

There are days where I down a pint of Ben and Jerry's. There are days I can't make myself go to the gym. There are days I feel down and out, stressed and overwhelmed. My life is a work in progress, one that I like to believe gets a little better every day. I take small steps toward my goals, and keep going. This journey is not easy, no matter what your title or training, but it's worth it. I'm in it for life.
